Calgary Interfaith Council

The Alliance is working to develop a membership of dues paying members in order for it to be effective in the public arena and insure its long-term financial self-sufficiency.

We are running periodic leadership training institutes – with leadership provided by the Industrial Areas Foundation – to develop the leadership skills of those interested in the organization. Institutions interested in exploring Alliance membership are encouraged to get a feel for the organization by sending a team of leaders to these Institutes. These leadership institutes focus on both relational meetings and the organizational theory that forms the core of the Alliance. The relational meetings are about relationship building, discussion of core values, and issue identification. These skills will be important for MACG, but they are also very useful for any organization.

We are also holding one-on-one meetings, to build the organization and create a relational network through Calgary. At this point we have connections with several faith communities, unions and non-profit associations. The network is growing week by week.

What’s happening right now?

Basically, here’s the plan:
  • We are gathering a core membership for MACG. At this point, we are seeking member organizations that can pledge start-up funding over three years.
  • We have hired an organizer and are embarking on the organization-building phase. During this time we will develop an organization that is broad and deep enough to make a difference in Calgary, and able to be self-supporting through its dues structure. This also involves strengthening the member organizations through leadership development institutes.
  • At the end of the building phase, we will conduct a high-profile “kick-off” celebration, and embark upon a major listening campaign to surface the issues key to Calgarians. From there we will move towards action.
